The effect of bone morphogenetic proteins in fibrotic diseases in ophthalmology

摘要:

骨形态发生蛋白(bone morphogenetic proteins,BMP)是转化生长因子β超家族中的重要亚群,其参与了机体的多种生理或病理生理过程,包括纤维化的过程。眼科诸多疾病以纤维化作为发病最终的病理变化,如角膜溃疡、青光眼、近视和视网膜脱离等。这些纤维化疾病的共同特征是不同的功能性细胞转分化成为成纤维细胞,BMP中的亚型BMP2、BMP4和BMP7参与了这些细胞的转分化过程,并抑制纤维化进程。BMP4和BMP7可能成为治疗纤维化的药物。(国际眼科纵览, 2016,  40:  136-139)

Abstract:

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) are multi-potential growth factors, which belong to transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) superfamily. BMP are involved in a lot of physical and pathophysiological process, including embryogenesis, skeletal formation and fibrosis. Fibrosis is the crucial pathologic change of many ophthalmological diseases, such as keratohelcosis, glaucoma, myopia and retinal detachment. These fibrotic diseases are characterized by trans-differetiation from the various cells to fibroblasts. It highlights the functions of BMP in fibrotic diseases in ophthalmology. Recent studies suggest important roles of BMP subtypes BMP2, BMP4 and BMP7 in the suppression of fibrosis. These evidences imply that BMP4 and BMP7 might become new drugs to the fibrosis to be deeply researched.   (Int Rev Ophthalmol,  2016,  40:     136-139)
